Why does a pod taste burnt?

Common reasons a pod or coil tastes burnt, and the checks to make before using it again.

A burnt or harsh taste almost always means the wick inside the coil is dry when the coil heats up.

Common causes

  • The pod is new and was not left to soak. After fitting a new pod or coil, let it stand for a few minutes so the wick absorbs liquid.
  • The e-liquid level is low. Refill or replace before the liquid drops below the coil openings.
  • Puffs are taken in quick succession. The wick needs time to reabsorb liquid between puffs.
  • The liquid is too thick for the coil. Very high-VG liquid may not wick fast enough in small pod coils.
  • The coil has reached the end of its life. Coils and prefilled pods are consumable and need replacing periodically.

What to do

Stop using the pod, check the liquid level, and let it stand. If the taste does not improve, replace the pod or coil. Do not continue using a pod that tastes burnt.
