How vape devices work

What happens inside a device between the puff and the vapour, and why coils and airflow matter.

When a device fires, the battery sends power to a coil. The coil heats the wicking material that has soaked up e-liquid, and the liquid turns into vapour that you inhale.

What controls the result - **Coil resistance.** Higher resistance suits tighter mouth-to-lung vaping; lower resistance is used for open direct-to-lung vaping. - **Power.** Some devices are fixed-output; others allow a wattage range set by the coil. - **Airflow.** A tighter draw concentrates flavour; a more open draw produces more vapour and a cooler inhale. - **E-liquid.** The PG/VG ratio needs to match the device. Thicker high-VG liquid does not wick well in a tight mouth-to-lung pod.

Firing methods Most pod kits are inhale-activated, so they fire when you draw on them. Others use a button.
